My Visit to 1L Boot Camp by Doug Ebeling '97
As I looked out across the huge room filled with eager, curious faces I realized, once again, what a leap of faith it takes to invest three years of your life, a large amount of money, and long hours studying in a law school education. I was visiting South Royalton to speak on a panel of Vermont Law School alumni as part of the 1L Boot Camp focused on career planning and job searching.

After an eight-month national search, the Board of Trustees has selected Marc Mihaly,
associate dean of VLS's Environmental Programs and director of the Environmental Law Center, as Vermont Law School's next president and dean. VLS Secures New Grant Funding
VLS recently received several exciting, new grants for three of its programs: an anonymous $1.25 million grant to support the new Center for Agriculture and Food Systems, allowing us to launch a national search for a
director; a portion of a $34 million EPA contract to provide technical, analytical, and outreach assistance to the national ENERGY STAR program; and a
$40,000 grant to fund a joint conference with Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China, in September.
VLS Launches Public Phase of The Campaign for Vermont Law School
On January 26th, Vermont Law School announced the public launch of The Campaign for Vermont Law School. Funds raised through the campaign will support student financial aid, a new
Center for Legal Services, programs that improve national environmental and energy policies, and educational initiatives that produce highly skilled lawyers at home and abroad. To date, gifts and commitments total $15.3 million, making this the most successful capital undertaking in VLS history. VLS hopes to raise another $1 million to $2 million before closing the campaign at the end of the fiscal year on June 30.
Career Services and Alumni Office Launch Focused Mentoring Program
Career Services and the Alumni Office need your help with a new mentoring program for the Class of 2012. We are looking for alumni across the country that are willing to meet with recent graduates as they settle into their post-student lives. Each 2012 student has been assigned a "go-to" person in Career Services, who will work with both the student and the alumni mentor during the next 6 months. Our hope is that you would be willing to speak with the 2012 graduate on a monthly basis and answer occasional questions about issues unique to your location. We do not expect you to find the student a job. Rather, we hope you will be willing to provide words of wisdom and encouragement based on
your experience and familiarity with the job market in a particular location. Mentors will be assigned based on regional proximity or interest in a particular area of practice. Please contact Kim Evans if you would like to participate.
Summer in Vermont
Grow professionally and personally this summer at the nation's preeminent program for environmental law and policy studies. The Environmental Law Center invites alumni to audit Summer Session classes at a discounted rate of $200/credit hour.
