Introduction
Welcome to the Vermont Law School web portal for innovative criminal justice programs. This website is developed and maintained by the VLS Criminal Law Society as a resource for students, members of the greater VLS community, and criminal justice practitioners and policy makers throughout Vermont and beyond. While every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the information on this site, users should not rely on the information without verifying it with the appropriate program or contact person. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions for this site please contact Robert Sand at rsand@vermontlaw.edu.

Sequential Intercept Model
The sequential intercept model was designed to identify five points within the criminal justice system where innovative approaches to offenders and offending behavior could be taken to divert individuals away from a traditional criminal justice response to crime. These intercept points begin in the community with law enforcement interaction with citizens, proceed through arrest, the judicial process, and sentencing, and conclude with release back into communities. As discussed below, this website closely parallels the sequential intercept model. More information about the sequential intercept model can be found here. A schematic representation of the sequential intercept model as applied to the Vermont criminal justice system is found here.

Website Design
This website functions in three ways. First, on the left side you will find a list of the 14 counties in Vermont. Clicking on any county will lead you to a description of innovative criminal justice programs in that county, where the program fits in the sequential intercept model, how to contact people associated with the program, and the results of any evaluations conducted on the efficacy of the program. On the right side of the page are the categories of innovative programs in Vermont listed along the sequential intercept continuum. Clicking on any of the categories will reveal contact information for programs that function at that intercept point in Vermont. Lastly, this page contains links to a large array of other criminal justice websites in Vermont and beyond as well as to noteworthy points of interest and events for the Vermont Criminal Justice community.

If you find this website useful please consider bookmarking it and adding it to your webpage.
